How to choose a chastity cage: size, material and long-term wear
A chastity cage only works when it fits. Too tight and it pinches within the hour, too loose and it slips off or chafes. Most first cages end up in a drawer for one of those two reasons, not because chastity was not for you. This guide explains how to measure, which material suits which wearer, what to know about locks and keyholding, and how to build up to wearing a cage for longer without problems.
How a chastity cage works
A cage has two parts: a base ring that sits behind the testicles, close to the body, and a tube that encloses the penis. A pin or hinge connects the two and a lock closes them. Because the ring sits behind the balls, the cage cannot be pulled off, and because the tube is short and closed, a full erection is impossible. The wearer can pee through the opening at the tip and wash around the cage, so it can be worn for hours or days. The person who holds the key, the keyholder, decides when it comes off.
Measure before you buy
Two measurements decide the fit. Take both when you are completely soft, ideally after a warm shower when everything is relaxed.
- Ring size. Wrap a strip of paper or a soft tape measure around the base of the penis and behind the testicles, where the ring will sit. Divide the circumference by 3.14 to get the diameter. Most men fall between 35 and 50 mm. The ring should feel snug but still let you slide a fingertip underneath.
- Cage length. Measure along the top of the penis, from the body to the tip, when fully soft. Choose a tube of the same length or slightly shorter. A cage that is too long leaves room to slip back and rubs, a little shorter keeps everything in place.
If you are between sizes, choose a model that comes with several rings. Most ManCage models include rings in different diameters plus spacers that set the distance between ring and tube, so you can fine-tune without buying twice. Spare rings are available separately in the ManCage Spare Ring Set.
Materials compared
| Material | How it feels | Best for | Price at BDSMKing |
|---|---|---|---|

Silicone: the comfortable start
Silicone gives a little with every movement, which makes it the easiest material for a first cage and for wearing at night. The ManCage Model 27 Ultra-Soft has a 35 mm ring and a cage of 9.8 cm. The ManCage Model 23 (7.5 cm) and the ManCage Model 24 (9.4 cm) come with five rings and adjustable spacers, plus both plastic snap locks and a metal padlock. On a small budget, the transparent ManCage Model 29 in flexible TPE is the cheapest way to find out whether chastity suits you.
Polycarbonate: light and practical
Polycarbonate is rigid, hypoallergenic and so light that you soon forget you are wearing it. The ManCage range in this material comes in black or transparent, the clear version giving the keyholder a constant view. The ManCage Model 01 is a compact 9 cm with a 35 mm ring, the ManCage Model 13 has a short insertable length of 6 cm with a 42 mm ring, and the ManCage Model 06 is the largest at 14 cm with a 45 mm ring. They close with a small padlock or with numbered plastic locks that contain no metal, which makes them a common choice for travel.
Stainless steel: for experienced wearers
Steel is heavier, colder and unforgiving, and that is exactly the appeal. It lasts for years and is easy to keep clean, but a steel cage needs an accurate fit because nothing gives. The Steel by Shots Brutal Chastity Cage has a 45 mm ring and a 10 cm cage. The XR Brands Captus is compact at 10.2 cm with a 35.6 mm ring and a rubber-protected hinge. For round-the-clock wear, the XR Brands Rikers 24-7 has an internal lock, so no padlock hangs from the front. The XR Brands Asylum comes with six rings and spare keys.
Rigid starter cages and belts
ABS cages are short and firm with a lock built in. The XR Brands Hard Stop measures about 5 cm with four adjustable rings and two keys. If you want the feeling of being locked without a rigid tube, a belt is the alternative: the XR Brands STRICT Safety Net is a jockstrap-style harness that locks front and back.
Gates of Hell: denial without a cage
The Gates of Hell is not a cage but a series of rings over the shaft, connected by a strap. It does not lock, but every attempt at an erection presses against the rings, which turns it into a strict denial and cock and ball torture toy. The XR Brands Gates of Hell 5 Rings has a base ring and four shaft rings with a D-ring at the end for weights or a leash. The XR Brands Gates of Hell with leather straps adds a strap that works as a ball stretcher. Wear it for short sessions, not overnight. More rings and stretchers are in Cock and Ball Toys.
Locks, keys and keyholding
Chastity is as much about who holds the key as about the cage. Agree in advance how long a session lasts, how the wearer can ask for release and what counts as a reason to unlock at once. Always keep an emergency key within reach: with the keyholder close by, or sealed in an envelope so that opening it is visible. Numbered plastic locks work the same way: they can be cut in an emergency, and the number shows whether the cage was opened. Keep spares, such as the ManCage Spare Lock Set with five plastic locks and a padlock.
Wearing a cage for longer
- Build up slowly. Start with an hour or two at home, then an evening, then a night, and only then several days.
- Expect night-time erections to wake you in the first nights. That usually settles; ongoing pain does not, and means a different size or a break.
- Check the skin every day. Redness, pressure marks, swelling, numbness or a cold or bluish colour mean the cage comes off straight away.
- Keep it clean. Rinse under the shower every day, dry carefully and clean the cage itself with mild soap or a toy cleaner whenever it comes off.
- Take it off for sport, long cycling rides and before a medical appointment or airport security with a metal cage.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know what size chastity cage I need?
Measure the circumference at the base behind the testicles and divide it by 3.14 for the ring diameter, and measure the soft length along the top for the cage. Choose a cage of the same length or slightly shorter, and a model with several rings if you are between sizes.
Can I sleep in a chastity cage?
Many wearers do, once they are used to the cage during the day. Silicone is the most comfortable at night. Night-time erections can be uncomfortable at first; if they cause real pain, take the cage off and try a different size or material.
Which material is best for a first chastity cage?
Silicone or polycarbonate. Both are light and forgiving, and ManCage models come with several rings so you can find the right fit. Save stainless steel for when you know your size.
How long can you wear a chastity cage?
That depends on fit, hygiene and experience. Build up from hours to days, check your skin daily and clean every day. Any pain, numbness or discolouration means the cage comes off.
Is a chastity cage delivered discreetly?
Yes. Every order ships in a plain box with no logo and no sender name.
