Impact Play
Impact play is the art of rhythm, sting and thud, and the right toy makes all the difference. This collection brings together wide leather paddles, martinets and floggers, braided crops and slim canes from Red Leather, XR Brands and Prowler Red. Soft leather suits a curious first spanking, while stainless steel crops and sleek canes are made for players who already know exactly where their limits lie.

Thud or sting
Impact toys fall roughly into two families. Broad, heavy surfaces such as wide paddles and suede floggers spread the force and give a deep, warming thud. Narrow tools such as crops, canes and single tail whips concentrate it into a sharp sting. Beginners usually enjoy thud first, so a classic leather paddle or a soft flogger is the natural starting point, with crops and canes following once you know how your partner responds.
Where to strike, and where not
Aim for fleshy, well padded areas: the buttocks, the back of the upper thighs and, with lighter toys, the upper back away from the spine. Avoid the kidneys, the spine, the neck, joints and the face. Start slowly and softly, build intensity gradually and keep checking in. A traffic light system of green, yellow and red works well alongside a safeword.
Combining impact with other play
Many people enjoy impact while restrained or blindfolded, because the anticipation heightens every stroke. Wrist cuffs from our bondage and restraints range or a padded blindfold add a new layer, but they also make communication more important, so agree on a hand signal beforehand.
Aftercare and cleaning
After a scene, a cool cloth, a soothing lotion and some quiet time together help both partners land. Wipe leather toys with a damp cloth and leather cleaner, and disinfect steel, acrylic or silicone tools before every use, especially if the skin has been broken.
Frequently asked questions
Paddle or flogger for a first time?
A paddle is easier to control and lands where you aim it, which makes it the best first impact toy. A flogger spreads the impact over several falls and takes a little practice, so swing it against a pillow first to learn its reach. Start softly, build up slowly and keep checking in with your partner.
What is the difference between thud and sting?
Thud is a deep, heavy sensation from wide, soft tools such as suede floggers and broad paddles. Sting is sharper and stays on the surface, from thin, light tools such as crops, canes and narrow paddles. Many scenes start with thud to warm up the skin before moving on to sting.
Where is it safe to strike?
Aim for the fleshy areas: the buttocks and the upper back of the thighs are the safest, and the upper back between the shoulder blades works with soft floggers. Avoid the kidneys, spine, neck, head, joints and the backs of the knees. Agree on intensity and a safe word before you start.
How do I clean impact toys?
Wipe leather and suede with a slightly damp cloth, let them dry naturally and use leather conditioner now and then so they stay supple. Silicone, rubber and sealed wooden paddles can be cleaned with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner. Always clean a toy that has touched broken skin before using it again.
